Heart of Law Enforcement Recognition
The mission of Beyond the Badge is to educate the public about ordinary law enforcement officers performing extraordinary acts of kindness in their communities throughout Louisiana. BTB recognizes a select group of officers nominated by the public or agencies at its annual Heart of Law Enforcement Recognition Ceremony.
Our Story
Beyond the Badge is the brainchild of Linda Hull. Linda was troubled by all the negative focus on law enforcement particularly in the media. She feared this negative focus would wash over the profession diminishing the fact that many law enforcement officers are kind, caring professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty every day while protecting their communities. Over coffee, Linda shared her vision to shine a light on the good deeds that law enforcement officers do every day with two friends. She outlined a program to recognize humanitarians who happen to wear guns and badges. Her friends were immediately enthusiastic about making Linda's vision a reality. By the spring of 2016, Beyond the Badge was incorporated and the group of 3 women were joined by an eleven member Advisory Committee.

Each year, Beyond the Badge recognizes extraordinary acts of kindness performed by Louisiana law enforcement officers with "Heart of Law Enforcement" awards. The number of honorees is completely dependent on the funds raised annually. One honoree whose act of kindness stands out above the rest is selected to receive the coveted "Service Before Self" award each year.

Beyond the Badge is 100% volunteer run by Louisiana citizens. All funds raised go toward the Heart of Law Enforcement Recognition Program. The organization has no staff, no formal office space and no administrative burden. That means 100% of each contribution goes directly to the program!

Beyond the Badge is 100% citizen-led and volunteer supported. BTB holds several events each year that require planning, promotion, preparation, execution and, of course, fundraising.
